PEGRAS into Plastic Recycling

Updated: Oct 21, 2019

Recently Pegras Australia started a project to develop technology to improve the recyclability of plastics in cooperation with the NSW Smart Sensing Network (NSSN) and local industries and various Universities.

The project partners plan to devise a way to incorporate a new ‘removal chemistry’ technology into the recycling process.

The objective is to produce 100% recycled HDPE for remanufacture in Australia of plastic bottles by significantly reducing or eliminating the contaminant that is remaining on the present processed flakes.

This is a specific problem aimed at a key barrier to greater recycling of high-value materials. However, the solution to this problem will be valuable for a range of polymers and plastics recycling practice around the world.
